May 2009

The most lumen comes from the sun, no surprise there, but what is lumen? Read the segment Lumen and Lux for more information.

An average house (in Sweden) use approximately 1 240 kWh annually for lighting purposes. Lightbulbs are not energy efficient - only 10% of the energy is visual light. Lightbulbs use 5 times more energy than low-energy alternatives. To save energy and be more energy-efficient European regulators have decided, starting 2009, to ban lightbulbs for more energy-efficient alternatives. One of the alternatives is LED, but many are sceptical. Their main concerns are that they do not produce enough light (lumen), that they give out "cold" light and that they do not reproduce colours correctly (ra-value). What the sceptics are not saying is that most LED lamps "live" for more than 15 years....

With our new LED fixtures we will turn sceptics into believers.

Lumen and Lux

Lumen is a standard measurement used for luminous flux, of the perceived power of light. Lux is a derived unit based on lumen. The difference between the units lumen and lux is that the lux takes into account the area over which the luminous flux is spread. A flux of 100 lumens, concentrated into an area of one square metre, lights up that square metre with an illuminance of 100 lux. The same 100 lumens, spread out over ten square metres, produces a dimmer illuminance of only 10 lux.

A normal 12V 20W halogen bulb produce between 100-400 lumen, how many lux depends on the distance to the nearest surface and the spread angle.

A normal family room has approximately 50 lux and a hallway or bathroom 80 lux.

Featured product - LD-13 and LD-14

Our model LD-3 (3W) produce a lot of Lumen, some say too much, but most people like the design so much so we decided to modify it. Introducing models LD-13 and LD-14.

  • LD-13 - 1,5W - IP20
  • LD-14 - 1,5W - IP44

AAA - credit rating

Furnco has triple-A credit rating, the highest credit rating in the Soliditet evaluation system, which is based on approximately 2,400 decision parameters. Moreover, Furnco has had the triple-A rating for more than 5 consecutive years.

"- Reliability and economic stability is essential to our customers and suppliers, and especially during the time between order and the delivery date", says Managing Director Per Vilén. "- There is no better assurance, and especially during recession-like conditions."

Featured product - LD-17

Our new LED minispot model LD-17 produce more than 70 lux from only 1,65W. Each diode have individual lenses and spreads the light efficiently and evenly. The measurements are not bad either - hole depth 12 mm, hole diameter 60 mm.

  • LD-17 - 1,70W - IP20

F.A.Q.

Q: Why is the EU banning light bulbs?

A: The main reasons are to preserve energy and remove products that can or may damage our environment. The EU has calculated that the amount of preserved energy will account to approximately 40 TW (or 40 trillion Watt). 2 TW is the equivalent to the amount of electricity ca 80 000 houses (in Sweden) use in 1 year.
