March 2009
Our new and improved LED program was very well received at this year´s exhibition in Bad Salzuflen. Despite all news articles of a world economy slowing down, the visitors came in good numbers, once again. We thank all visitors who came to our stand and hope to see you soon again.
In this edition we highlight a new LED product, some information regarding recycling and the importance of certifying electrical and electronic products and a new F.A.Q. If you have a question regarding lighting systems please send it to us and we will answer it in our next newsletter. Until then, spring is coming, enjoy!
Have a nice business day/ Furnco

The importance of certified products Products distributed and sold in Europe must be marked with a CE mark, but what does that actually mean? CE is a letter of conformity. That the product is in accordance to European safety-, health- and environmental regulations. To most products it is the responsibility of the producer that the regulations are upheld. In principle it also means that the producer is liable for any damages caused by the product when the end user has correctly followed the user instructions.
Also it is technically only a certificate for customs officials and other authorities for controlling and upholding European regulations. The CE-mark does not require that the products have been tested by an independent party. Many times it has mistakingly been used as a reassurance of quality and performance by consumers and been compared to independent certifying companies, e.g. Tüv, VDE and Nemko.
We test all of our products at Nemko in Norway (N-mark). By doing so we certify products for all of Europe with one of the highest regarded independent certifying companies in the world. The N-mark does not complement the CE-mark, but is an assurance of product quality, performance and safety.

Electrical and electronic waste As a company importing and exporting electrical and electronic lighting systems we are regulated by European laws to minimize all electric and electrical waste (WEEE). That is not only a local, but also a global issue and Furnco is a proud member of the Swedish organisation El-Kretsen. Owned by the Swedish trade and industry with the purpose to collect and recycle electrical and electronic waste. El-Kretsen runs a nationwide collection and recycling program and in their latest report we find:
"In 2007, El-Kretsen consolidated its position as one of the leading systems in Europe for the collection of electrical and electronic waste. Quantities have increased from 16 to 17.5 kg per inhabitant. El-Kretsen still has the most costeffective system in the world. The collection target in Europe is 4kg per inhabitant."
To care for our environment must be a priority, we can do better.

F.A.Q. Q: What happens if you overload a electronic converter? A: It is never a good thing to overload, but all of our converters are overload protected. So practically nothing happens, but first you need to make sure that the converter has, in fact, been overloaded by checking all the lampbulbs, 10W, 20W or more. Add them together and compare that number with the maximum load of the converter. For example: 6 bulbs (4 pcs 10W and 2 pcs 20W) with total 80W. The converter has a maximum load of 60W. Q: So the converter has been overloaded with 20W? A: Correct. Change the lampbulbs so the total load does not exceed 60W, for example 6x10W. Plug in the converter and restart the system and everything will be working fine again. There are some people that change lampbulbs without taking necessary precaution, wearing gloves and checking the wattage of the bulb, this happens and we are full aware that the system is not foolproof.
